Tegu Habitat

Tegus are pretty big animals with pretty big needs. One of the largest being a correct and healthy environment/habitat. A tegu for sale online needs a few important things in it’s habitat.

Substrate

Your tegu for sale would require substrate. Cypress and orchid mulch are the best options, as they both hold humidity well. Try to make it about 8″ deep so your tegu can dig.

Water

Water is also needed. It should be kept in a vessel large enough for the tegu to lie in. Basking Spot

A basking spot obtained with a lightbulb should also be in your tegus habitat. Floodlights are a good option, as they light up the cage, encouraging activity. The basking spot should be between 105F-115F.

UV source

A UV source is also prominent. ReptiSun and ReptiGlo are two of the more popular brands.

Cage Furniture

It may be hard to believe, but cage furniture also plays a role in insuring your tegus for sale happiness. Tegus appreciate cork board, cleaned branches, fake and real plants and rocks. They usually also like a hide of some sort.

Digital Thermometer and Hygrometer

Last, but not least, you will need will need a digital thermometer and hygrometer to check the ambient environment of the cage.

Size

The cage should be a minimum of  8’x4’x3 for adults and 48″x24″x24  for a baby.

The argentine tegu is a large, terrestrial lizard native to Eastern Argentina. They are a big commitment, as they live 7-12 years. They are usually easily tamable if obtained at a young age. They usually grow to reach 4 ft inn total length.

It is important to think about a number of things when purchasing a pet tegu for sale . Diet

Argentine tegus for sale have very large appetites and baby tegus for sale can eat up to 5 tubs of crickets a week as well as mice, fruits and other inverts. It’s no secret that they cost a fortune to feed as babies and juveniles. Adults are less hungry and only require feeding every other day.

Housing

The first thing to consider when looking at buying a tegu is whether or not you will have the space to house one of these lizards for the rest of its life. While a tiny 6″ hatchling could easily fit in an aquarium, a 4.5ft adult is going to need a huge enclosure to contain it! As a general rule, the minimum housing for an adult tegu is 8’x4’x3; a baby can be kept in a 48″x24″x24 enclosure for the first few months of its life, but you will probably need a permanent adult cage by the time it reaches 12-14months of age. Baby tegus will appreciate branches reaching up into the upper part of the cage. A tegu cage should contain substrate, water, a basking spot, a uv source, a digital thermometer and cage furniture. The cage humidity should be between 50-80%.
