Northern Blue Tongue Skink diet and feeding
Blue-tongue skinks are omnivorous (eating both plant and animal matter). Generally, a varied diet consisting of at least 50% plant material and 50% animal protein provide a healthy combined diet mixture for your new baby Northern blue-tongue skink. Also, you can use frozen mixed vegetables, various greens, small amounts of high-quality dog food. In addition, for insects feed crickets, mealworms. Lastly, you can also feed thawed and pre-killed frozen mice. Like with all reptiles, clean and fresh water should be provided daily.
In the wild blue-tongue skinks eat mostly land snails, carrion, insects, wild veggies, berries, fruits, and plant materials. They are not cunning predators but rather general omnivorous opportunists. Babies are more carnivorous/insectivorous for their first season/year of life.
Due to the omnivorous ingredients in many cat and dog foods, a majority of breeders and keepers feed their animals cat or dog food as a staple (aka over 50% of the diet). I feed my blue tongues a variety of dog foods, cat foods, etc.
