Sulcata tortoise breeders

UVB lighting for tortoises is key to proper growth and healthy torts.  We recommend either a reptisun 10.0 lamp or the Arcadia 12% for higher end applications.  Like all UVB lamps, you will need to adjust how close the light is to the floor of the Sulcata tortoise enclosure.  If you are using a 12% it should be 18-24″ above “shell height” whereas a 10% lamp, or 10.0 can be 12-15″ over the tort.

Sulcata tortoise Substrate

Something as simple as organic potting soil or mix can be used.  For babies, we use simple paper towels as they are easiest to keep clean.  An Albino Sulcata tortoise for sale are typically a “burrowing tortoise” and therefore substrate should be at least 4″ for a baby Sulcata tortoise.  For our adult enclosures, we top off our substrate which is around 18″ deep for egg laying females, with some cypress mulch.
