Not only do sulcatas grow very large, they grow very rapidly — up to two and a half feet long and 80-110 pounds or more in 5 to 10 years. On average, they grow to be 36 inches and can weigh as much as 150 pounds at its largest maturation. The oldest sulcata recorded lived to be just over 80 years old,

Sulcata tortoise diet and food list

The Sulcata tortoise, like most Testudo tortoise species, enjoys a diet of greens.  At CB Reptile, we feed our adult, juvenile and baby Egyptian tortoises for sale a wide variety of high calcium greens.  Using a mixture of romaine, dandelion, collard, mustard greens, spring mix as well as soaked and softened Mazuri tortoise chow.  We also chop carrots, tomatoes sparingly, and yellow and green squash to feed our baby tortoises for sale.  Baby Sulcata tortoise for sale should be fed the same as adults, just smaller portions.

Habitat can really be anything including an aquarium, however, make sure you block out the sides so the tortoise cannot see out.  Baby Sulcata tortoises for sale will become frustrated and try to get thru any wall they can see thru.  For these reasons, often people use other things besides fish tanks for tortoise habitats.  Using a sealed PVC 4×2′ box is also a great option when considering how to set up a Sulcata tortoise habitat or tortoise table.

A baby Sulcata  tortoise will enjoy an ambient daytime temperature of 85 degrees, with nighttime lows not dipping below 77.  Providing a hot spot, and cooler zone is recommended however not entirely necessary when they’re babies.  If you re going to provide a hot spot, try to keep it between 92-95 degrees by using a reptile thermostat.

Sulcata tortoises and UVB lighting

UVB lighting for tortoises is key to proper growth and healthy torts.  We recommend either a reptisun 10.0 lamp or the Arcadia 12% for higher end applications.  Like all UVB lamps, you will need to adjust how close the light is to the floor of the Sulcata tortoise enclosure.  If you are using a 12% it should be 18-24″ above “shell height” whereas a 10% lamp, or 10.0 can be 12-15″ over the tort.

Sulcata tortoise Substrate

Something as simple as organic potting soil or mix can be used.  For babies, we use simple paper towels as they are easiest to keep clean.  An Albino Sulcata tortoise for sale are typically a “burrowing tortoise” and therefore substrate should be at least 4″ for a baby Sulcata tortoise.  For our adult enclosures, we top off our substrate which is around 18″ deep for egg laying females, with some cypress mulch.
